Have you ever considered adding flag football to our school’s sports programs? Many students have, and they’d love to see it become an option. Let’s find out what Crete-Monee students think about this idea.

Believe it or not, flag football is a professional sport. There is a league called the American Flag Football League, or the AFFL. It may also be added to the Olympics in the future.
“I think a lot of kids want to play football but either aren’t allowed to or are afraid of getting hurt. Flag football would give more students a chance to play,” Xavian Hughes said.
Tackle football can be dangerous; not everyone wants to take that risk. Flag football could provide a safer alternative while letting students enjoy the game.
Of course, adding a new sport isn’t always easy. There could be obstacles along the way.
“One issue might be getting enough people interested. Many students already play regular football, so it could be tough to get enough players for flag football,” Dominick Washington said.
For flag football to succeed, the school needs to spark interest, giving students a reason to want to play. They have to find a way to make this sport seem appealing to many students.
“They could put up flyers around the school, post information on the walls, and send emails to parents about the new flag football program. That might get more people interested,” Donyae Johnson said.
Many other students had similar ideas, which shows that good promotion could help flag football gain momentum.
Sports teach more than just how to play the game, they also build valuable life skills like teamwork and leadership. You have to talk to your team and work together if you want to succeed, and if the team is down, you have to lead them to better.
“Adding flag football isn’t just about the sport itself. It can teach teamwork, hard work, and other important skills,” says Xavian Hughes.
Not many teams do well in their first years. After being added to the NFL in 1976, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were 0-14 in their first season, and it took them four whole seasons to get their first winning season.
“I think they will do well. We have a lot of great athletes here, including football players who are worried about injuries in tackle football. Flag football will attract talented players and do well,” Johnson said.
Many students support the idea of bringing flag football to the school, and even those who don’t want to play aren’t necessarily against it. Hopefully, the school will see the student’s interest and potentially consider adding flag football in the future!
