“The worst thing that we deal with is the students coming into this school with bad behavior or with a bad attitude. We don't deserve it. We are just doing our job," security guard Saul said.
Students can come off as mean, but most of them just get their tensions built up by other people like students and staff, or even their parents can tense them up. Some staff can affect their own students and make them be the way they are.
“I think that some of the teachers affect the students because some can be unfair to the students or don't know how to give a student their space when they need it,” security officer Reggie said.
Many students who fight can endanger themselves or others around them. It can also leave students with trauma or even PTSD, which can lead to schools making things more strict.
“One response to publicized school violence has been the implementation of security measures (metal detectors, cameras) and policies (visitor sign-in, locked doors),” said an article involving security measures.
“The worst experience I had was when an altercation broke out and led to a student losing his life,” security officer Abrabram said.
Their job can be very stressful and emotionally hard, and people don't see that side of it, so people can take it for granted.
“My favorite part of this job is connecting with some of the kids who go to Crete, and I like to help others when I have the chance,” security guard Reggie said.
“I was interested in this job because I lost a brother at a young age, and I feel like I am here; I can help another student in need or stop someone from doing something that can get them in trouble,” security guard Abrabram said.
Students can see different views other than security, and that’s another thing that security won't understand.
Fights can start for many reasons, even little things such as arguments, but security guard Saul said that the main origin of the fights stems from social media drama.
“From there, it proceeds to rumors, and other kids can get involved, and turns into a bigger problem,” security guard Saul said.
Students may take things the wrong way or may take something too far, which can lead to more altercations.
“Some students say that some kids take a joke too far, but their joke is really rude, and their joke is the main problem,” Jayden Franklin said.
