CMHS students reveal their excitement and opinions about this year’s talent show.
“The talent show was really fun! I had a great time,” Junior Chelsee Rice stated.

This year’s talent show featured a variety of new contestants. While most were singing, there were a few exceptions: some people were dancing, and a few were doing a mix of both.
“My favorite was when my friends were singing ‘Baby’ by Justin Bieber. They were in a group called ‘Bieber Fever’,” Chelsee Rice said.
During the talent show, one of the acts was a quartet dancing and singing to the song “Baby”, released in early 2010 on his album My World 2.0, being described as an “instant classic” for its universal appeal; however, it has held the spot for being the most disliked video on Youtube, partly because of Bieber’s controversial behavior back when the album released.
Pierre’ Redmond was the first act of the talent show; he was in a trio doing a step routine, a form of percussive dance in Black culture, where the performer(s) entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps.
“My favorite part was when he said ‘Tequila,’” Junior Kylie Simmons said.
Half-way through the talent show, there was a contestant who sang the song “Tequila”– a Latin-inspired surf instrumental song written by Chuck Rio, an American Rock and Roll saxophonist, and recorded by the American Rock and roll band ‘The Champs’ from their album ‘Go, Champs, Go!’ in 1958. Though the contestant only said the word “Tequila” while wearing a poncho and sombrero, the crowd was bursting with praise and approval.
“My friend Aiden was in the talent show, too,” Simmons said.
During the talent show, a trio came out in color-coded hats and shirts and sang “Fruit Salad”, a song released in 1994 by the band ‘The Wiggles’ from the movie ‘The Wiggles Big Birthday!’. However, there are four members of ‘The Wiggles’– Blue Wiggle, Purple Wiggle, Red Wiggle, and Yellow Wiggle– only three of the four at the talent show performed. It was later announced at the end of the talent show that the Blue Wiggle was late and, therefore, couldn’t perform with the rest of the band, leaving only the Purple, Yellow, and Red Wiggles to perform at the show.
“The best performance was probably Rejon’s,” Simmons said.
Around the last half of the talent show, Rejon Strong–the winner of last year’s talent show– performed an original song named “Magic Love”. Brejan continues his winning streak by getting first place in this year’s talent show, with second place going to the group ‘Bieber Fever’, and 3rd place going to the group that performed ‘Fruit Salad’. All the other contestants that performed were getting gift bags and a neon-colored water bottle. Since the talent show ended a little early, the staff that were overseeing the event decided to put on a movie on the projector until the school day ended.
